Computer classes for beginners has been running now for 2 years and has been very successful. The classes take place on a Thursday evening between 7pm and 9pm in the Onthank Community Centre.
The class is facilitated by Eleanor Rennie who herself began learning how to use a computer by attending local community computer classes. She started from the beginners’ class and continued through to completing her ECDL qualification so knows exactly just how scary it can be to walk through the door of the ‘unknown’.
Currently the class has 9 students, ranging in age from 5 - 85, (although there is no age limit) who come along to learn a little about the basics of using a computer, whilst also enjoying a cuppa and socialising with each other. For some, this is part of the reason they enjoy attending as well as learning some new information along the way. The class is very informal, friendly and fun! (maybe that’s why people keep coming back!)
The students have seen themselves learn how to switch the computer on, type a letter, fill in a simple spreadsheet, transfer photographs from their cameras to a memory stick, edit their photographs, send and receive e-mails as well as adding attachments to them and of course learning how to Google!
You’re never too old to learn new skills or make new friends!
The class cost is £3 per evening.Back to Classes
